Named for a 4,000 foot cliff face that features unique updrafts, the town of
Blowing Rock is a mountain destination in North Carolina that welcomes visitors
year round with a variety of attractions, accommodations and shopping. Today,
the area surrounding the cliff offers guests a visitor centre, an observation
deck and more and is billed as North Carolina's Oldest Travel Attraction. Area
resorts provide venues for golf and canoeing in the summer as well as winter
activities such as cross country and downhill skiing at one of the local hills.
Whitewater rafting is another popular activity in the Blowing Rock area, with
several companies running trips on the Nolichucky River, a tributary of the
French Broad River that features a 3000-foot gorge.
